Jackals Channel New York Cubans in 12-4 Victory
June 6, 2023/ In a city full of history, the New jersey Jackals executed their best impression of the famed New York Cubans.
New Jersey defeated the Washington Wild Things by a score of 12-4, 87 years to the day when the Cubans defeated the Newark Eagles, 12-5.
On June 6, 1936, the comparable pitcher, Martin Dihigo, took the mound for New York. On that day, Dihigo struck out six Newark batters and contributed at the plate with a solo home run.
In the present day, Vin Mazzaro was given the ball to open the Jackals six-game homestand. The Rutherford, NJ native pitched five innings and bested Dihigo by striking out ten.
At the plate, New Jersey left fielder Josh Rehwaldt did his own impression by hitting, not one, but two home runs on the day.
The Jackals started things off quickly with two runs in the second inning. In the top of the sixth, Washington tied the game at three runs a piece, but New Jersey broke out with six runs in their half of the sixth and never looked back.
The Jackals host the second game of their series with the Wild Things on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 with Breakfast and Baseball. First pitch at 10:35 AM.
